Bruntons SigmaDrive is a modern marine drivetrain solution engineered to dramatically reduce vibration and drivetrain noise while improving overall reliability.
Unlike conventional flexible couplings, SigmaDrive is designed to handle propeller thrust directly between the propeller shaft and the gearbox output flange. This allows it to isolate and absorb vibration caused by shaft misalignment, accommodating up to 3° of angular movement in any direction without transmitting harmful forces to the engine or transmission. When used with external thrust bearings, SigmaDrive also provides greater freedom in engine positioning, allowing installations to be optimized for space and ergonomics.
SigmaDrive is suitable for a wide range of vessels — from leisure yachts and commercial workboats to canal craft and defense applications — and supports propulsion systems up to 1300 horsepower. Installation is simple and non-invasive, typically requiring no structural modifications and often completed with the vessel still afloat.
By maintaining proper alignment throughout the drivetrain, SigmaDrive helps protect seals, bearings, and shafts from premature wear, extending service intervals and delivering smoother, quieter, and more dependable operation over the long term.
